Network is lost when host system return from sleep

Post by AnrDaemon »

I have VirtualBox set up as development platform on my notebook. It is connected by three adapters:
  • NAT for general interwebs,
  • host-only network for container maintenance and
  • a bridged adapter to the USB network card for the actual work.
The host is also receiving its connectivity from the same USB adapter.

Now, notebook likes to go to sleep from time to time. It's that lazy. When it comes out of sleep, the network is restored, but VirtualBox seems to get the short end of it. NAT and host-only adapters work, but bridge is not actually activated. No matter what I try, nothing actually helps short of shutting container down and restarting in one way or another (vulgar ACPI shutdown or savestate, doesn't matter, the thing is, the managing process should be fully restarted).

I'd like to know if there's something else I may try, or should I report it as a bug?

I'm pretty sure there are already tickets for this which have existed for years. You can try adding to one of those.

Also, doesn't disconnecting and then reconnecting the cable (using the Devices|Network... menu in a running VM) not work? ISTR that it does.

It doesn't. Was first of the things I tried.
