hello guys, i tried all day to run kali linux via virtual box on my windows 10, but every time i tried to run it it said: "

VMMR0_DO_NEM_INIT_VM failed: VERR_NEM_MISSING_KERNEL_API (VERR_NEM_MISSING_KERNEL_API).

VT-x is not available (VERR_VMX_NO_VMX)."

i tried to enable virtualization through my lenovo's bios but stil didn't help.

i saw the solution is to activate Hyper-v through the setting, but i can't find it.

i tried to download it through powerShell on windows or cmd running as administrator but the command is unknown.

i searched a bit deeper and found out that they say that Windows home does not has the feature called Hyper-V and that's why i cant run it on virtual box. and the only solution is to buy Windows pro version.

I wanted to ask you if do you know a cheaper way to get this features or versa run some virtual machine on my windows 10 home version to get linux ios without using hyper-v feature?

The short answer is YES.

If you are running VirtualBox version 6.1, hardware virtualization is required to run any guest. If you have failed to achieve this, there is no point in worrying about Hyper-V.. Hyper-V is not even available on Windows Home, or on any Windows 32-bit OS.

I don't know where you saw a suggestion to activate Hyper-V, but that would be totally the wrong thing to do (if you could). It would prevent you from doing what you want to do, even if you had succeeded in enabling VT-X (or AMD-V) in the BIOS.

You will have to try harder to get it enabled in the BIOS. There is no point in trying VirtualBox 6.1 until you succeed. Have you searched the Internet for a guide for your particular PC or motherboard? What is the model number of your PC?

Minor correction: Hyper-V is available and sometimes even active on Windows 10 Home (although hidden from the ordinary user).

So far as I know, and that's not much, the full-blown Hyper-V hypervisor that can run virtual machines is not on Home, but several other services that can/do run under Hyper-V-assisted circumstances are on Home. So Home may still need to shut off Hyper-V as shown in I have a 64bit host, but can't install 64bit guests posts 2 and 3.

In Windows 10 Home, the core components of Hyper-V can be already installed and used by several other Windows services for sandboxing them. The other Hyper-V components (e.g. Hyper-V Manager, needed to create VMs) are not installed, but are lying around on the hard disk. Google for "Hyper-V mum", if you're interested.
