Linux guest screen auto-scaling not working

Hi!
I think it deserves new topic - situation: I have linux virtual machine (k 5.4.29) which uses physical partitions (raw disk access). Everything is fine, but screen auto scaling is not working.
I think it is due to the fact that such VM has to be run with elevated permission (as admin) and I have impression that some functionality is lacking in such regime for VM to function properly (ok - screen-wise).
I tried to run the machine under normal user and user with local admin rights (for it I still needed to elevate perms to as admin). In no way the auto-scale option was un-dimmed. I reinstalled guest additions thrice w/o any success (again - auto-scale wise).
Is there anything I can do to get VM screen scalable as usual. Currently I can only apply screen sizes offered by X-desktop (KF5 in my case)
(Vbox- 6.1.4)/W10 (19xx)
