Linux guest screen auto-scaling not working

Post by Berjozkin »

Hi!
I think it deserves new topic - situation: I have linux virtual machine (k 5.4.29) which uses physical partitions (raw disk access). Everything is fine, but screen auto scaling is not working.

I think it is due to the fact that such VM has to be run with elevated permission (as admin) and I have impression that some functionality is lacking in such regime for VM to function properly (ok - screen-wise).

I tried to run the machine under normal user and user with local admin rights (for it I still needed to elevate perms to as admin). In no way the auto-scale option was un-dimmed. I reinstalled guest additions thrice w/o any success (again - auto-scale wise).

Is there anything I can do to get VM screen scalable as usual. Currently I can only apply screen sizes offered by X-desktop (KF5 in my case)
(Vbox- 6.1.4)/W10 (19xx)

I'd like to add - also seamless mode is greyed out.
+ After some host computer's falls in sleep, attempt to enter full screen mode ended with small "screenlet" in the center of the display. Leaving this "full screen" mode brought back normal windowed screen.

Raw-disk access on Windows hosts requires Run-as-Administrator. I have done RaA raw disk access but I haven't tried Full-screen.

I may be missing something in your post, forgive me: Were you able to get the guest to go full-screen when the guest is not run as Admin?

I started a guest from a Run-As-Admin main Virtualbox window and found that the guest could go Fullscreen both while running as Admin and while running normal privileges. The guest was not using 3D acceleration, though.

Let's try this: Start the guest from cold boot, not save-state. Run until you see the problem happen, then shut down the guest from within the guest OS if possible. If not possible, close the Virtualbox window for the guest with the Power Off option set.

Please zip and post the guest's vbox.log, using the forum's Upload Attachment tab.
