modprobe vboxguest failed

Post by delucaa »

Hiall.
I have Ubuntu 19.10 with Kernel 5.3.0-42-generic. I've installed virtualbox 6 and the extension pack successfully. Now I need to install the VirtualBox guest addition but I got the following error after running the addition

Verifying archive integrity... All good.
Uncompressing VirtualBox 6.0.14 Guest Additions for Linux........
VirtualBox Guest Additions installer
Copying additional installer modules ...
Installing additional modules ...
VirtualBox Guest Additions: Starting.
VirtualBox Guest Additions: Building the VirtualBox Guest Additions kernel
modules. This may take a while.
VirtualBox Guest Additions: To build modules for other installed kernels, run
VirtualBox Guest Additions: /sbin/rcvboxadd quicksetup <version>
VirtualBox Guest Additions: or
VirtualBox Guest Additions: /sbin/rcvboxadd quicksetup all
VirtualBox Guest Additions: Building the modules for kernel 5.3.0-42-generic.
update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-5.3.0-42-generic
modprobe vboxguest failed
The log file /var/log/vboxadd-setup.log may contain further information.

Any idea how to fix this?
I red other posts to sign the modules cause I have the UEFI boot.... tried that but still no fix.
Ideas?

I personally haven't posted because I have no idea how to fix it. Have you tried the last line in your posted error message, or googling various parts of the error message with the "site:forums.virtualbox.org" restriction term added to your search?
