[Solved] scaling issue on tv and rdp

Post by missjuly »

hello,
I'm experiencing a weird issue with my virtual box only on the following setup:
computer is an intel nuc, w10 updated, vbox 6.0.18 r136238 (Qt5.6.2), connected to a samsung hdtv via hdmi cable.

I will start the gui and it shows the bar super big like this:
vb1.JPG
vb1.JPG (88.24 KiB) Viewed 746 times
I ended up going to w10 settings/display/advanced scaling:
vb2.JPG
vb2.JPG (54.23 KiB) Viewed 746 times
and when I flip the switch on the "fix apps so they're not blurry" , the status bar gets fixed but the window contents gets messed up, like this:
vb3.JPG
vb3.JPG (83 KiB) Viewed 746 times
I checked against other computers that are not connected to a tv display and they run vbox gui just fine at the console and via rdp.
This nuc is the only one showing these symptoms. If I remote desktop to it, same thing. I have researched but found nothing similar to my setup.
is this w10 fault? Any info appreciated.
thank you,

It looks like you have VirtualBox running in a HiDPI mode.

I don't normally provide tech support for Windows, only for VirtualBox. But just this once... Go to the shortcut you use to launch the VirtualBox manager, view properties, compatibility tab, and click the "Change high DPI settings" button. I don't intend to explain all the options, I'm sure Google can do that.

Thank you so much for pointing me in the right direction. The setting was unchecked. I checked it and it still ended up having xl icons while moving, like this:
vb4.jpg
vb4.jpg (66.45 KiB) Viewed 725 times
so I went to adjust the compatibility/changehigh DPI settings as follows:
vb5.jpg
vb5.jpg (33.86 KiB) Viewed 725 times
and it ended up fixing it.

Thank you!!!
