USB 2.0 zip drive driver did not install

Post by PaoloBarone »

I installed VirtualBox v.6.1.4r136177 (the latest version.) When I plugged my USB 2.0 zip drive disk device into my computer's USB port, Windows 7 Home Premium loaded the USB 2.0 drivers, but it failed to load the driver for my USB 2.0 zip drive disk device. If I plug the USB 2.0 zip disk into the USB port, the USB zip drive is not recognized by Windows 7, and the zip drive E: does not appear in the Windows Explorer File Manager. If I plug the mouse into the USB port, the mouse works fine. How can I load the USB 2.0 zip disk driver and get the USB zip disk to be recognized by the Window 7 Virtual Machine?

I installed the Oracle VM_VirtualBox Extension_Pack

You need to provide the driver for hardware the guest OS does not know how to use. You would have to find a USB 2.0 zip drive driver for Windows 7 and install it into the guest OS.

Would I need to search for the USB 2.0 zip drive driver from Internet Explorer in the Virtual Machine? Right now, the Virtual Machine does not have access to the Windows 10 host PC's hard drive or my zip drive. I already installed like 160 updates using the Virtual machine's Windows Update feature.

Guest Additions Shared Folders can help you get access to a host folder so you can web-search on the host then transfer files into and from the guest.

How do I get "Guest Additions Shared Folders"?

You should probably read the first section of the manual, it will explain many of the important ideas necessary to running a virtual machine.

If I use Internet Explorer in my Windows 7 Virtual Machine to search for a USB 2.0 zip drive driver and install it in the Windows 7 Virtual Machine, will that work?

I read the VirtualBox help file. It said to install the USB driver, enter the following line:
VirtualBox.exe -msiparams ADDLOCAL=VBoxApplication,VBoxUSB

I opened a cmd shell, navigated to the host Windows 10 folder c:\Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox, and entered the above command line at the prompt. The program ran for a few seconds and terminated without displaying any messages. I ran the program twice. I closed the Windows 7 Virtual Machine and restarted it. The Windows 7 Virtual Machine still does not recognize my USB 2.0 flash drive.
