No external network connection with Host-Only adapter

Post by YnD »

I have:
6.1.4 r136177 (Qt5.6.2) version of Virtual Box
Windows 10.0.18363 build 18363 (home)
no internet connection at guest OS
Ping from host to guest and back
at the adapter properties at host that was written like "no connection to network"(at ru-version of windows) at IPv4 connection

I reinstalled Virtual Box many times, with hyper-v and without it
I tried to install it "as administrator" and not
No errors when VM starts, no antivirus
No internet connection

that hurts

Host-Only is, wait for it...

Host only.

See Virtualbox Networks: In Pictures: Host-Only Adapter

There is no internet connection with Host-Only. The host PC itself and the guests have a private network that does not get out of the host PC.

Look over the whole Virtualbox Networks: In Pictures to see what kind of connection you want to have.

You should always install VirtualBox from the account which you normally use, but use the "Run as Administrator" option. This ensures that your VirtualBox vms are created in your normal user account but the installer has enough privilege to install necessary drivers.

At the moment, VirtualBox 6.1.4 will not run successfully with Hyper-V or any other app (such as Credential Guard, Device Guard or Sandbox) with take control of hardware virtualization.

Why did you choose Host Only? The default setting is NAT for a very good reason. It is the best choice when you install a vm. It will give the guest an Internet connection without and further configuration by the user.
