Snapshots not shown in VBox Manager

Post by VolkerS »

Hi,

I'm working with VirtualBox (6.1) on a Linux host (ubuntu 18.04) and I have made a big mistake I think. Now I can't find the snapshots in VBox Manager but I found all of the snapshot-files in the right folder. Is anybody who can tell me how I can reconnect a lost snapshot?

Thanks in advance!

Best regards
Volker

The only way is to restore the .vbox file from a backup that is newer than your most recent snapshot (at least, the most recent you want to keep).

Otherwise the VM is dead, and we're into data recovery mode with no guarantees - and it gets worse if in the meantime you've been running the VM without the snapshots and modifying the base VDI that the snapshot chain ultimately depends on. If you at least had a backup of that (i.e. a backup made any time after the first snapshot was created) then that at least is a problem that can be eliminated.
