VirtualBox Guest Additions cannot install

Post by Orange Group Tech »

Hi,
I cannot install VirtualBox Guest Additions on my VM Windows Vista, it keeps saying
"Error 800b0100, no signature was present in the object."
Execution returned exit code: 2
Error executing "C:\Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox\VBoxDrvInst.exe"
Error executing "C:\Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox\VBoxDrvInst.exe"
when trying to install the mouse driver.
I have tried reinstalling the VM With multiple ISOs.
Please help!

That error comes from MSI, the Windows installer, it doesn't come from VirtualBox. It seems to be caused by bad antivirus definitions in the guest OS. Perhaps if you temporarly disable guest AV then the install will work.

Otherwise, hit Google with that error message - I find plenty of hits across a broad range of apps.

Your question does not concern the host OS and therefore does not belong in the "Windows Hosts" forum. Topic moved to "Windows Guests".

Hi,
Thanks for the help.
Unfortunately, it didn't work and the solutions online didn't to.
So I had to manually install the drivers using devmgmt.msc on the guest and using the inf files in the program files directory.
I managed to install the display drivers but not the mouse and other drivers though.
So I won't have access to file manager.
Well but the display was the main thing to fix for me as the resolution was too small.

Your guest doesn't like VirtualBox drivers digital signature for some reasons. There could be multiple reasons for that including the fact that VirtualBox uses a new method of signing which wasn't verified to work with Vista. I'll test it shortly.

Edit: it's indeed the case. VBox Guest Additions cannot be installed in Windows Vista due to bad signatures.

Edit 2: After it failed to install, I ran VboxWindowsAdditions-x86.exe manually and it installed without errors.

I just ran into the same problem on the same version of Windows, I'm currently solving the problem by using an old version of VirtualBox Guest Additions which works fine. I'm using version 6.1.0. You can find it on the VirtualBox mirror ( http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualb ... _6.1.0.iso )

Yes! It worked for a Windows 7 virtual machine.
Thanks!

The issue with 7.0.12 Guest Additions on Windows 7 VMs is known and should be fixed in the 7.0 test build Guest Additions and likely 7.0.14.
