I've a new Ubuntu 18.04 install, with Virtualbox installed from the default repo (VirtualBox Graphical User Interface Version 5.2.34_Ubuntu r133883 - © 2004-2019 Oracle Corporation (Qt5.9.5)) and I'm using a Ubuntu 18.04 vm I created on a different PC.
The VM itself is running perfectly but when I close the guest's window and chose "save the machine's state" it ends up in the aborted state, every time.
I can power down the guest without difficulty.
This VM was created by creating a new VM and attaching the previous .vdi file. The PC is a home built r7 3700x cpu, gigabyte x570 board, 32gb ram, gtx 1660 super graphics card.
I suspend guest but it ends up aborted

Re: I suspend guest but it ends up aborted
If I'm reading this right, and I think I am, you're using Ubuntu's fork of Virtualbox, rather than the official Virtualbox from https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Linux_Downloads. We only support official Virtualbox here, since the forks change things.VirtualBox VM 5.2.34_Ubuntu r133883 linux.amd64 (Oct 23 2019 13:26:08) release log
This could be the problem. This method is not the recommended method for moving or copying a VM. See Moving a VM.frappe wrote:This VM was created by creating a new VM and attaching the previous .vdi file.
You have simply moved the hard disk from one "PC" to another. If even one setting is off, the guest OS may have trouble. It is best to bring the guest's .vbox file too. (that's the hardware 'recipe', and all the stuff needed for activation to be maintained). Bring the whole guest folder that contains the .vbox file, along with the guest disk file. Than you will have brought over the whole guest.
Re: I suspend guest but it ends up aborted
Well, it seemed to go away by itself (perhaps because I turned on 3d acceleration although maybe that was a coincidence) but i took your advice and went the the latest from virtualbox.org to prevent any future problems. I also used the existing vbox file. So thanks for the help.
So, what's the point in ubuntu (or whoever) working on forks if they cause problems, or need to be ruled out as the cause in the event of unconnected problems?

I have no idea on this one. I could counter with, "what's the point of everyone and his sister putting out another distro of Linux?"frappe wrote:what's the point in ubuntu (or whoever) working on forks
