Cannot Access Host Folders

I have the Sun XM virtualbox installed on my openSUSE 10.3 system with Vista as the guest.

I am trying to access the host folders and am unable to find using \\vboxsvr\<share> or \\vboxsrv\<share>

I have it setup (see screen below) as a share.

What am I missing?

Oops!

My apologies....

Sun XM Virtual Box Version 1.64.

Guest Additions Installed - Version 1.5.2. I had 1.6 installed but read about some USB issues, so I backed the version down to 1.5.2.

I'm not sure if this matters, but I'm running openSUSE 10.3 with KDE as the host. The guest is Vista Ultimate Service Pack 1.

3 Options:

Disable in VISTA UAC (not a good way)

Use Version 1.66 or 2.02 with the newest Guest Additions

Use Windows Shares

Always done. UAC is a PITA.

Okay will try.

Not sure the question there. Use "windows shares?"

Instead of Shared Folders you can use the normal windows technics to share Folder.

For a linux host this means using samba.

That works always and is 100 % stable.

Okay, installed the newest versions and all is good with the world now.

I appear to even have USB support.

I'm kind of a Linux newbie. I've only been using it since 2004 on a regular basis.

I still haven't figured out how to get SMB shares working on my linux boxes. I get all sorts of permissions errors and whatnot. I can use smb into windows machines but not vice versa. I use KPF, which is kludgy but seems to work.

There are enough howto's and manuals on this topic. Don't ask it here, it's off-topic. You have to make sure that you have a valid Samba user you use to connect to your Linux. Usually, this is the same name as your login.

Oh, no worries. I'm a regular on the various forums, newsgroups and mailing lists.

Just haven't figured it out yet.
