Fedora9 Install hangs on "Spawning Session"

Post by brdgolf1 »

Hello All,

I have recently installed VBox 2.0.0 on Fedora9. I create a VM for
WindowsXP and go through the setup. When I go to start it, it always
hangs at Spawning Session and the progress show 0%. Help anyone?

I got the same thing.

Install kernel-headers kernel-sources..

then run the first-time script to finish the setup.
(/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup)

It worked fine after in my CentOs 5.2

Good luck

2.0.0 Doesn't work well, if at all on Fedora 9.

Uninstall VB 2.0.0 using the package manager, then install 2.0.2.

I've only tried 64-bit Linux guests, though. Mepis 7 work well, Ubuntu 8.10-alpha5 doesn't work well, Sidux 2008-3 can't start the x-server (but will from the 32-bit 686 version).

I read somewhere on VB bugs list that fc9 has a known bug with its x-server version 1.5x, and when/if they upgrade past that VB may work better.

Ah, here's something about it:
When you install the guest additions on Fedora9 you will note the following message if you take the time to read the installer messages: Detected Xorg 1.5 RCx, refusing to install the Xorg modules. We will provide updated guest additions once Xorg 1.5.0 was released finally. Please check the vbox-users mailing list for further announcements. Detected Xorg 1.5 RCx, refusing to install the Xorg modules.
Something else I had to do, which you may not, was create a new user because after that first install, VB refuses to work on my default user. With new user, no problems.

Spawning session

Post by mariette99 »

After autom, atickly have updated kernel on my FC8 I got this 'Spawning session thing' and the computer locked.

After trying the tip on /etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup everthing is back to normal and
my virtual box is running normaly.

Thanks for the tip

After i install, the following message appears:
"No precompiled module for this kernel found -- trying to build one."

When i start to load a vm, the "Spawning session" appears, and freezes.

Any idea on how to compile a module.

Thanks.

Please read the User Manual for installation requirements (gcc / kernelsource / make etc.).

After reading and installation try it again.

If comiplation doesnt work, look in the named logfile before asking the question.
