Black screen at guest login (boot process is normal)

Sorry for posting yet another 'black screen' problem.

I'm running 6.0.14 r133895 with an osboxes dot org Debian guest. Everything was fine when I first installed things (about 6-8 weeks ago IIRC). About a month ago I responded to the popup and updated VirtualBox to the current version and then the problem appeared.

So, I start the guest, the new screen window appears, and I can see the usual Debian startup messages. When I expect to see the login screen, the window goes black. Then Click on View -> virtual screen 1 -> anything, and the login page appears as expected. Everything works then.

Anything obvious?

Reinstalling Guest Additions fixed it. I guess that the update either broke or uninstalled it. Regards, S
