OSX host / Windows10 guest

Have 3 USB programmer/debugger hardware devices from Microchip: Pickit3, Pickit4 and ICD3.

All three connect to Windows10 guest in USB devices (get the chime and the device is ticked in the menu) but only the first actually works and can be used by the appropriate MPLABX software application. The Pickit4 and ICD3 hardware devices show "driver won't start" type errors.

Is there anything I can do to debug and perhaps get working this sort of problem or do I just have to hope one day Microchip fixes something? (The Pickit3 which works is no longer made so would like to get the others working.)

Take a look at USB basics and troubleshooting. Maybe these devices fall under the more troublesome classes of USB to grab into a guest, or the troubleshooting steps will offer a suggestion.

Turns out I was on the USB 1 controller: installing the extension pack and running USB 3 fixed it right away. Delighted!

Will now let few other people know...

Thanks a lot.
