Format USB drive dismounts and fails

I'm running on uBuntu 4.15.0-72-generic with Virtualbox 5.2.34_Ubuntu. When I have Windows 10 creating a Dell recovery drive using the Dell OS Recovery tool it is writing an .iso image to a USB drive. It apparently tries to format it and the USB disappears and the Recovery Tool gets flustered and gets and error and quits.
I have seen similar behavior when I try to update the flash memory in some Sena USB communications units.
Is there no answer than to find a real hardward Windows 10 machine for these routine updates? I have the extension pack installed and USB 2.0 selected.

That is not VirtualBox, that is a VirtualBox fork. We don't support forks here. Please download VirtualBox from the
official download site and install. If you don't want to do that then you need to find support on the Ubuntu forums.
If you post again here then make sure the matching extension pack is installed, and attach a zipped VM log showing the error (and showing genuine VirtualBox being used).

Can you explain that part as well? I can't seem to understand what's going on here...

'Sounds' like this:

There is also a link in the article to how to do the same in Linux. I presume the OP is using Dell hardware, which may be a pre-requisite that's tested by the software.
