Discuss VirtualBox 2.0.2 Release
No doubt an announcement will be coming shortly but another poster just pointed out that the Sun download site (http://dlc.sun.com/virtualbox/) now contains the 2.0.2 kits. This is a maintenance release fixing about 40 reported bugs in 2.0. (See the VirtuBox Changelog). It looks as if the team have had their heads down and working hard to stabilise VirtualBox Version 2.
In the meantime I though it sensible to open the usual discussion topic.

Let's hope they didn't mess up with 2.0.0, leaving us with a lot of posts to answer due to the problems that sneaked in

Vista install problem
I am unable to install on Vista 64bit. Pressing the install button during the wizard in the ready to install section doesn't seem to do anything. I think it's the bit where the UAC login is meant to kick in. Anyone else have this problem?
Edit: Problem has gone away, think it was due to a lack of HDD space

This latest version of VirtualBox is working for me now with lots of improvements from version 2.0.0.
I can transfer data from the hard disk image one of my USB devices connected over a network without any problems.
I also did a test creation of a 1.2 GB hard disk image and it turned out really well.

Is it just me, or did VirtualBox get a lot slower?
I have a linux host with Win XP as a guest, and with the 2.0.2 release I can even see the loading bar with the white blocks (between the bios and the familiar XP loading screen) for about 2 seconds.
Everything seems to have lost the snappyness.
I'm comparing to 2.0.0, obviously.

I don't really know how I could benchmark it, I did not change any settings for what it's worth.
I added the correct repository for my kubuntu 7.10 install, right after I installed the .deb of version 2.0.0.
Today I noticed that version 2.0.2 was available through the regular update system that (k)ubuntu provides and I installed it.
What would you suggest I should do to get accurate benchmarks? Boot time? I guess I would need to revert to 2.0.0 for comparisons then.

Was told to post this in the 2.0.2 discussion instead of the 2.0.0 so here goes:
I'd like to see the Guest Additions feature improved, and also I would like to see it provide more active feedback and status info during the installation attempts and also after a successful installation.
I'd also like to see the Status Bar at the bottom be a bit more like VMware Workstation and list some of the full keystroke combos for things like switching mouse control between host and VM, going from windowed mode to full screen, stuff like that.
Got Mandriva 2009 RC1 working with the Additions, but it doesn't disable / gray out the menu entry for it, so yeah, it gets confusing.
I wish the entire process was more stream-lined and automatic. I wish we did not have to manually install the Additions at all, in fact. But for goodness sake, can we add a few progress indicators and dialogs with status info or something?

I was getting massive memory leak with both the 2.0 and the 2.0.2 versions. VBoxSVC.exe would start at around 4 mb and keep going. Highest I saw it at was 740mb. That is with no instance running, just the selection screen. Tried a fresh install as well and it didn't fix the issue.
Downgraded to 1.6.6 and all was fixed. VboxSVC never gets over 5mb.
This is on amd vista 64-bit version.
edit: xp sp3 guest

Never seen this here. Could you create a defect for this?snowblind wrote:I was getting massive memory leak with both the 2.0 and the 2.0.2 versions. My host is Kubuntu 8.04 amd64. I have migrated my production VMs to 2.0.2 after some tests and I'm happy to say everything I need works perfectly.
The most annoying problem (for me) from older versions, the non-us keyboard issues, where "/" and "?" didn't work were fixed by the new QT4 interface.
I did some tests running Ubuntu x64 using the live-cd and it seems to work fine. Also, all breaking problems from 2.0 have been fixed as expected.
Thanks VirtualBox team for this great release!

Isn't much else I can include, as I already downgraded. Hope it helps, though.
