Host: Windows 8.1 64 -Bit, GeForce GTX 1050 Ti
Guest: LM 19.2 64-Bit
Video driver 1 (VD1): Stock windows
Video driver 2 (VD2): Version 436.48 WHQL, 2019.10.1, Windows 8.1 64-bit
Display settings (VB-Manager):
Video Memory: 128MB
Graphics controller: VMSVGA
Acceleration: 3D enabled
Problem : Software rendering mode
Using VD1 results in showing the " Software rendering mode" box. With VD2 the "Software rendering mode" disappers but the host system went unstable resulting in several system crashes with checkerboard pattern on the screen.
Any ideas?
Thx
Jörg

That's most probably because the Windows Stock Driver doesn't have 3D capabilities.

Is that the log that you attached? And when you talk about "system crash", you got to be more specific than that. What's crashing? Host? Guest? VirtualBox? And you mean a crash-crash, or crash-bad_behavior?

Hi socratis,
the attached log reflects the settings/state of the VB showing the "Software rendering mode" box with VD1 installed on the host.
When VD2 is installed I'm pretty sure that it is the host who's crashing. When this happens, no interaction with the host is possible at all and the whole screen (Windows+VB) is filled with checkerboard patterns. All I can do in this situation is pressing the power button until the machine powers off. Because this happens only with VD2 installed, I stated that the "host went unstable".

You have a hardening problem with your video drivers. Please read
really carefully the following FAQ:
Diagnosing VirtualBox Hardening Issues for some generic guidelines/ideas.
00:00:02.801935 supR3HardenedErrorV: supR3HardenedScreenImage/LdrLoadDll:
rc=VERR_CR_PKCS7_KEY_USAGE_MISMATCH fImage=1 fProtect=0x0 fAccess=0x0
\Device\HarddiskVolume2\Windows\System32\nvd3dumx.dll: fKeyUsage=0x0,
missing 0x1: \Device\HarddiskVolume2\Windows\System32\nvd3dumx.dll
00:00:02.802073 supR3HardenedErrorV: supR3HardenedMonitor_LdrLoadDll:
rejecting 'C:\Windows\system32\nvd3dumx.dll': rcNt=0xc0000190
I would definitely try to reinstall the video drivers.

That definitely doesn't sound good. Have you tried updating the drivers? Actually, you might have to, see above...
