Hello,

I was running Windows Server 2008 on Guest and had to reinstall Host Windows. Also i had to move Location of the .VDI File to another Partition of the same HDD. I did back-up all the files twice and all the settings.

When i started it on new Host System with new VirtualBox whole Guest was rolled back 6 months. I didnt run any snapshots of the system and when i tried to restore it with snapshots it couldnt do it. i tried running other back-up copy and it still didnt help. It was set to same date as the original. like the whole VM was Copied on that date and nothing else was added to it nor backed up.

Does anyone have any ideas how this could of happened? or a way to fix this? i dont have high hopes of getting the files back but i do hope i can make sure it does not happen again.

Also most of the informations where in 2 different databases that were backed up on 5.10.2019. and got rolled back with the whole VM to 4.6.2019. I dont remember if I made a Snapshot on that day (I do it every once in a a while).

Take a look at Moving a VM and see what you did different.If you did back up all the guest files, it should be possible to put everything back the way it was.

Can you show us a listing of all the files you backed up related to this guest? The files may still be usable to put the guest back together.

Sounds like you made and started a new guest off the base disk. Frankly, booting a guest does change the data therein, now your base disk & snapshots may not match.

If you still have the base disk and all the snapshots, you might be able to use Mpack's CloneVDI to make an unsnapshotted clone disk. Read the instructions carefully.

I want to see the recipe of the VM, the ".vbox" file. Right-click on the VM in the VirtualBox Manager, select "Show in Explorer". ZIP the selected ".vbox" file and attach it to your response.
