machine inaccessible after crash - recurring problem...

Every time virtualbox 2.0 on linux craps out, the virtual machine comes back listed as "inaccessible." The options are: "Delete" or "Refresh." Refresh of course does nothing.
The error (this time) is:

The last time this happened, I backed up the xml file in ~/.VirtualBox/Machines/WinXP/ but restoring that made no difference this time.
