Please shut down the guest from within the guest OS, so it is fully shut down and not save-stated. Unplug the device you want to insert into the guest. Reboot the host to clear any latent data.
Please post the "showvminfo" command output again so we can see your USB filter. Open the host PC's Device Manager, showing the host's USB devices.
Then start the guest. When it is booted and logged in, open the guest's Device Manager, showing the guest's USB devices.
Insert the USB device.
Your host Device Manager should see a new Virtualbox USB device, and the guest Device Manager should see a new USB device. Please report if either or both of these expected results did or did not occur.
Now remove the USB device, and shut down the guest from within the guest OS, so it is fully shut down and not save-stated. Post the guest's log, zipped, using Upload Attachment.

I can't do this when the guest is currently shutdown. Not sure what you mean. Also do the same in the guest.

Correct, got a little discombobulated.
Editing my previous post. Ok, try it now.
(for posterity, the first version of the above post said to open the guest's Device manager, then start the guest. As Willy Wonka says, I needed to "strike that, reverse it, thank you".)

Re: Can't attach USB to guest
We don't know what you tried or you didn't. We're simply asking to to follow a step-by-step guide, which pretty much boils down to enable a USB filter according to the FAQ, start the VM, plug in the device.soulvoid86 wrote:I just tried once again, same issue.
Can you do that?

Re: Can't attach USB to guest
I even quoted 'scottgus1' in my reply when he stated to try setting up a USB filter per the tutorial. My response was the above. I don't understand why you're being so rude... I've provided more detail than I find on any forum posting. You're acting like I made a post with "HELP, USB ISN'T WORKING. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO, HELP ME NOW PLEASE."
I setup the USB filter EXACTLY as stated in the tutorial. I added the filter, selected the device, removed all unnecessary info except Name, Vendor and Product ID. The same error occurs. What more could you possibly need to know??
Get off your high horse man.. I know you're a forum moderator, but Jesus Christ dude..

Come again? Where's the rudeness? Seriously now...soulvoid86 wrote:I don't understand why you're being so rude..
Listen, we're trying to point you to a specific set of steps. If that's too diffucult for you to follow, things get way simpler... You keep on posting, we keep on repeating ourselves like a broken record. Till the moment that we get tired of repeating ourselves, at which point you keep on trying on your own. Your choice.
From where I'm standing, you're looking for help, not me. So, adjust your attitude and then talk to me... Till then... good luck, I'm done here.soulvoid86 wrote:Get off your high horse man.. I know you're a forum moderator, but Jesus Christ dude..
