[WorksForMe] Mint 19.1 Cinnamon: extension pack 6.0.12 won't load

When attempting to install the 6.0.12 extension pack on a Linux Mint 19.1 machine running Cinnamon, I receive the following error:

Failed to load the main module ('/usr/lib/virtualbox/ExtensionPacks/Oracle_VM_VirtualBox_Extension_Pack/linux.amd64/VBoxPuelMain.so'): VERR_FILE_NOT_FOUND - /usr/lib/virtualbox/ExtensionPacks/Oracle_VM_VirtualBox_Extension_Pack/linux.amd64/VBoxPuelMain.so: undefined symbol: _ZNK16RTCRestArrayBase9baseCloneEv.

When I make a second attempt to install, it asks if I want to reinstall the extension pack, but attempting to enable USB 3.0 it gives me an invalid settings error, so it's not really installed.

The only VM is a Windows 10 guest that is otherwise running just fine.

How exactly are you trying to install the ExtPack? Did you make sure that the checksum matches with what's published in the website? Here's the SHA256 checksum:

I feel a little stupid, because I didn't remember that I had installed VirtualBox from my distribution's software repo, and it is an older version - 5.2.32! I hadn't paid attention to the splash screen, and not until I ran the VBoxManage version command did I realize I wasn't on 6.0.12.

I've downloaded and installed the correct extension pack, and will upgrade VirtualBox when I get home tonight. Sorry to waste your time.

I must tell you that if you want to continue having discussions around here, only the official VirtualBox is supported, i.e. not the forked version, but only the one from the Linux Downloads section. I wouldn't waste my time installing the ExtPack if you have the forked version, I'd uninstall what you have and install the official one...
