Post by n04h »

hello ,

i have a problem with virtualbox. when i run a vm with w2012 the cpu is so high 35-60% ( only one virtual machine). the characteristics of the vm is:
  • 2048 MB of Ram
  • VT-x/AMD-v
  • Nested paging
  • PAE/NX and hyper -V Paravirtualization
  • video memory 128 MB
  • graphics controller VBoxSVGA
  • acceleration 3D
i'm using linux mint 19 like a host ( the system is updated & i installed the nvidia drivers). what should i do ?

thank you so much

Before I forget... Do not chop your VBox.log in two pieces. Just ZIP the VBox.log. It helps you, it helps us, it helps the server, it helps save a (virtual) tree or two... ;)

So, please edit your message, delete the two parts, and post a ZIPPED log.

On the Host or the Guest? If on the Guest, what's the TaskManager inside the Guest show? Who/what is responsible for the CPU?

You can definitely afford to assign a 2nd CPU to your guest, your guest is going to thank you.

Same with the RAM, you could afford 3072 MB (=3 GB).
00:00:00.696904 DmiExposeMemoryTable <integer> = 0x0000000000000001 (1)
Can you explain why this exists on your setup?
00:00:17.930019 VMMDev: Guest Additions information report: Version 5.1.26 r117224 '5.1.26'
You need to install the Guest Additions that match your main VirtualBox program. With the VM window having the focus, go to the host's menu "Devices" » "Insert Guest Additions CD Image...". If not prompted by auto-run, run "VBoxWindowsAdditions.exe" from the CD.
Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.
Do NOT reply with the "QUOTE" button, please use the "POST REPLY", at the bottom of the form.
If you obfuscate any information requested, I will obfuscate my response. These are virtual UUIDs, not real ones.

hello ,

thanks for your kind reply. i want to edit the post but i'm new here and i don't see the button...

i was searching about it in the FAQ:
"If someone has already replied to the post, you will find a small piece of text output below the post when you return to the topic which lists the number of times you edited it along with the date and time"

the logs are too long to post in one file so i post it separately ( but now i know i can put a zip file )
socratis wrote:On the Host or the Guest? If on the Guest, what's the TaskManager inside the Guest show? Who/what is responsible for the CPU?
on the host i run htop ( i add a photo and it's compressed in a zip file )

i see.. i was thinking 1 core is enough but not in the case of windows XD
socratis wrote:Same with the RAM, you could afford 3072 MB (=3 GB).
ok i did it =)
socratis wrote:Can you explain why this exists on your setup?
i don't know .. i searched the error in internet and i saw it's caused by a bad installation

so i deleted the vm and i installed it again

done

now when i run the vm it goes better than before but i don't have clearly if it's normal if the new vm of windows 2012 consumes this resources:

cpu 5.3 and memory usage 46.7 ( i have 8 GB of ram )

my laptop has this characteristics :
