New install 5.2.32 on fresh Ubuntu 18.04.3 server win vm so slow unusable

Post by parisv »

I've reinstalled ubuntu server and moved from a hdd to a ssd.

I've installed windows 10 1903 and it's so slow it's pretty much unusable. I've tried ticking the solid state option and use i/o cache on/off neither makes a difference.

It works initially on boot then I'll get kicked out of rdp. I've disabled sleep and screen sleep in the power options.

I previously ran Windows 10 ok on a regular hdd on the same drive as Ubuntu from the home directory.

I vaguely recall last time changing the storage controller from sata to something else I tried IDE but still the same.

It boots fine I rdp to it then after 10 mins or so i get disconnected, I go to the phpvirtualbox console and it's so slow I can't even login.

You threw in a couple of terms in there like RDP and phpVirtualBox. I'd like more details on what's going on with your setup.

Also, we need to see a complete VBox.log, from a complete VM run, where the problem occurs:
  • Start the VM from cold-boot (not from a paused or saved state) / Observe or recreate the problem / Shutdown the VM (force close it if you have to).
  • With the VM completely shut down (not paused or saved), right-click on the VM in the VirtualBox Manager and select "Show Log".
  • Save only the first "VBox.log", ZIP it and attach it to your response. See the "Upload attachment" tab below the reply form.

If you obfuscate any information requested, I will obfuscate my response. These are virtual UUIDs, not real ones.

I'm running ubuntu server 18.04.3 on a headless machine.

I followed this article to set virtualbox & phpvirtualbox up: https://www.ostechnix.com/install-oracl ... ss-server/ (can't paste u r l until a member for longer than a day.)

The windows 10 1903 vm is using a bridged adapter so it has its own ip on my home lan range and I remote desktop to it from my macbook.

I've installed guest additions 5.2.32 on the vm.

I'll boot it up and wait for it to crash grind to a halt. Then will attach the logs.

Thanks.

attached is the log. On this occasion I booted it up at 14.13 and it was ok until 16:40 where i clicked start log out. Then wanted to rdp straight back in and it then went slow mo.

Other times it has kicked me out of remote desktop after 30 mins or so and slowed down today was the longest I had been in it for.

Try to provide 2 CPU cores to the guest. There is a known problem with the RDP service on Windows 10 1903 eating up one CPU core ...

My mistake it did have 2 cores but I tried recreating the vm upon these issues and only created with 1. I'll keep an eye on it today.

Thanks
