Hello Everyone,
I'm using ubuntu 16.04 as host machine and am trying to load windows 7 from Hard disk in virtual box. Windows is loading fine.
I want to change the hard disk Serial number from which windows is loading.
I tried using these commands
sudo VBoxManage setextradata "Windows" "VBoxInternal/Devices/ahci/0/Config/Port0/SerialNumber" "***************".
I have checked the command entry in the [Windows.Vbox] file as
<ExtraDataItem name="VBoxInternal/Devices/ahci/0/Config/Port0/SerialNumber" value="***************"/>
But when I try to run the command in the windows it gives it as follows:
wmic diskdrive get serialnumber
Serial number : Some Different number which is totally numeric.
wmic bios get serial number
serial number 0
I am not seeing changes getting reflected in the guest machine.
what to do?
Any comments would be helpful.
Regards,
Ravi Teja.

Re: Trying To change Harddisk serial Number
I don't think all the commands are fully implemented. And unless you start giving real number, we won't be able to go further ahead.
Seriously now? You obfuscated your HD serial number? Can you explain to me, which security rule is actually breached if you used real numbers? I might be missing something...

Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.

If you obfuscate any information requested, I will obfuscate my response. These are virtual UUIDs, not real ones.

Re: Trying To change Harddisk serial Number
Hi, socratis
Thank you for the reply,
Sorry for not providing the serial number. I just wanted to make it generic.
So, I was trying with the serial number "Z2AWCL8W" which was provided above the Seagate harddisk as (S/N: Z2AWCL8W).
But this is not getting updated in guest windows.
Thanks.
