I'm using Ubuntu 8.04 as a host and I'm looking to get XP to work as a guest on an Intel 945 chipset - Acer aspire 3690 laptop. When I load up the XP guest, the network card isn't working therefore no internet, so I'm looking to provide it with a network card driver. I've been unable to get the USB stick to work with it, nor have I been able to get the shared folder to work so I haven't been able to provide a driver. Any advice on what I could do to sort this?
Thanks

Have you tried the Intel Pro/1000 T Server (NAT) ?
Using USB, have you tried adding a Filter?
shared folders, do you have Guest Additions installed.
Trying to remember if 8.04 comes with SMB enabled? If you can get SMB going on Ubuntu, you may be able to get some good Guest/Host sharing going without Guest Additions...

I don't think I've tried the server one, but I've managed to give it the correct driver by burning it to disk - so I now have the internet working but the USB and shared folders I still can't get to work. I have already added a USB filter and installed guest additions.
You refer to "SMB", could you please clarify what SMB is?

Since you're using Ubuntu
this thread will probably will help with USB. You'll have to provide more info on how exactly the shared folders do not work.
Please next time search the forums first

... USB and shared folder questions have been answered before quite a few times so with any luck you problem will already have been answered somewhere. (Also if you're using VirtualBox 2.0 then you might want to downgrade to 1.6.6 for now since there are quite a few problems with the new one as you no doubt can tell from the large number of forum threads linked to it.)
SMB is the protocol used by Windows for file and printer sharing, by the way.
