Windows 7 on Centos 7 Host, not able to RDP

Post by rastrix »

Good afternoon,

I hope you can help me as I'm about ready to rip my hair out.
  • I have a CentOS 7 host running a Windows 7 machine.
  • I've got 3 static IPs allocated to my CentOS 7 machine.
  • I've used the bridged adaptor setting for the windows 7 VM.
When I boot, it's fine, but will only use the HOSTs IP as the external IP, if I try to change the static IP in the windows network settings it just gives me no connectivity. The issue I have is, I will not be able to RDP to the windows 7 machine using the IP that it is currently using from the HOST.

I hope this makes sense ?

What does that mean? Can we see some concrete numbers, such as IPs for both host and guest?

Most probably due to a miscofiguration of your IP settings. The IP is one of the parameters you need to configure, then you have the Gateway, the Mask and the DNS server. Why bother with static and not just leave it as DHCP, when the DHCP server takes care of all the parameters for you?

Again, I don't understand this part, maybe you could clarify it a little bit...

Note that when you're using the VirtualBox RDP module, 1) your guest doesn't even need to have a network, at all! 2) you are supposed to connect to the Host, not the Guest.
