I have just upgraded my VirtualBox from 1.6.4 to 2.0.0. Prior to 1.6.4 I had 1.5.6 installed with Guest Additions 1.4.0. I am now trying to install the 2.0.0 guest additions, but I am unable to do so. I used the Windows un-installer to remove the 1.4.0 guest additions but that apparently didn't work as the guest additions icon still shows up in the system tray when I restart the Vbox machine and when I click on Devices >> Install Guest Additions nothing happens. How can I remove all of the 1.4.0 guest additions so that I can install the 2.0.0 guest additions?
Kubuntu 8.04 LTS host
Windows XP Pro guest
Thanks,
Rick

The reason nothing happens if you click on the Install GA menu item is because the ISO is mounted only. Open My Computer and navigate to the cdrom. From there, open the installer (there are 3 .exe files, one general installer that calls upon one of the other two; one for 64 bit guests and one for 32 bit guests).
If you have any problems with 2.0, think about the extra features 2.0 has and if you really need them. If you don't need them, use the much more stable 1.6.6 release.

Thanks Sasquatch. I've tried this, in fact I have another machine with a similar setup and I had to install the guest additions the way you suggest. But on the machine I'm having problems with, this doesn't work. When I open My Computer I can see the the iso mounted as D: drive but I can't open it. When I click on it I get a brief moment of drive activity and then nothing. The drive doesn't open and I can't see any of the files. Any other suggestions? I tried un-installing 2.0.0 and re-installing 1.6.6 but my vdi didn't work. It seems 2.0.0 made some change to it and now it won't work on earlier versions of VBox, so I reinstalled 2.0.0. Also, my other machine is running 2.0.0 and I would like to keep them as similar as possible.Sasquatch wrote:The reason nothing happens if you click on the Install GA menu item is because the ISO is mounted only. OK. I finally got the guest additions 2.0.0 to install. I had to burn the iso to CD and then use the right click menu on the mounted disk and then Eplore CD. That gave me the files I needed to install. I clicked on the appropriate file and the installation completed successfully. I don't know why I couldn't install from the iso image, Probably a setting on my system. I'll investigate.
Thanks,
Rick
