I installed a Windows XP guest on a Windows 10 host.

While I can enter information in the "Add Share" box under the "shared folders" menu item in the settings box, I cannot create a shared folder because, at the bottom of the settings window, it says, "Invalid settings detected" with the OK button faded. The attached explanation says that on the System Acceleration page "hardware virtualization" is enabled but should be disabled because it is not supported by the host system.

The problem is that when I look at the acceleration page under "system" I see checks in the boxes to enable both "VT-x/AMD-V" and "Nested Paging" but can't clear them with mouse-clicks. The lettering is light grey unlike the black lettering for the "share folders" box.

Any ideas on how to fix this would be appreciated.

That can mean only one thing; your VM is running, paused or saved. There are some settings that you can change while the VM is running (shares, networking connections, recording, etc) and some settings that you can't (RAM, VRAM, hardware acceleration, etc.). The ones that you can't are "hardware" ones. Just like in a real-life computer, you need to shutdown the VM completely (from within the VM) and then modify the settings.
