Hello Everyone,

I'm sure this has been addressed before (So I apologize) but I am having a problem with enlarging windows 7 guess on to my windows 10 host PC, I keep getting this on virtualbox.

I see a lot of (not very useful) black, and the relevant part of the screenshot is too small to be readable even if I zoom in. Perhaps try again. Screenshots can be up to 128KB, there was no need to restrict yourself to 16KB.

If what I'm seeing is the Win7 installer, then you can't resize it. You have to wait until the relevant guest OS functions have been installed, and then ideally install the Guest Additions first.

That was my point there is too much black space and if I enlarged the photo it would still be too small as to be unreadable. The Virtual OS is as big as it appears on my Desktop and I can't expand it any larger I can understand that this might be a problem with 98/xp but win7 it shouldn't be a problem I would think.

Okay so if I have to wait until the relevant guest functions have been installed first (I am assuming you mean in setting up functions within VirtualBox?) like setting up the Ram, HD space, etc.. or are you talking about something else? (Sorry I don't quite understand?) if you are not, how can I load the relevant guest functions first without loading the guest Additions first? I hope I am making some sense. Thanks Again

The guest additions are added to the OS running in the vm to make it work better in a virtual environment. Since the are additions to the OS, you cannot load them until after the guest OS is installed.

What you are seeing looks like a standard Windows 7 installation window on the standard Windows 7 background. I have no idea why it is so small and surrounded by white space.

What do you see in the Preview screen on VirtualBox Manager? Mine shows this.

Because the OP tried to resize the VM window manually from the borders. Since the Guest Additions are not installed, the guest can't be resized leaving the white space around the main area.

The Guest Additions (GAs) get installed on the guest and it would be good to match the VirtualBox version, for anything other than enhanced graphics support. It provides functionality such as shared folders, shared clipboard, drag and drop, pointer sharing (for PS/2 mice), enhanced graphics support. You do not have to download it separately from the main VirtualBox program, since it comes bundled with it.

After you're done installing the guest, with the VM window having the focus, go to the host's menu "Devices" » "Insert Guest Additions CD Image...". If not prompted by auto-run, run "VBoxWindowsAdditions.exe" from the CD. Make sure there are no errors or suggestions during the install.
