[Solved] Moved Win 7 VM gives System_Service_Exception STOP: 0x0000003B after 1st reboot

Post by devnullius »

Hello,

I moved my Windows 7 x64 Virtual Box Client to a new, older server that is supposed to be handling some virtual machines for me from now on out.

After the transfer, at first boot, all went smooth a.f. After logging in though, I got a message that I needed to reboot for some important updates. Which I did, with the BSOD as a result. After some quick Googling, I could dismiss most of the options (it's a Dell R410 and securable.exe told me I was all-ok) (nor did my host have any 1394 devices). First boot worked, safe mode with networking also still worked. So in Safe Mode I removed a bunch of devices I thought could be the culprit and would be safe enough to remove. I started with USB 2 and did a bunch more.

The first reboot after that worked as a charm. Though I got a long list of hardware devices that were found or needed drivers installed. And guess what, after the reboot... The same BSOD.

I added 3 screenshots; I'll reply with one more that got dropped (max. upload limit?)

Weird, huh? Anyone any suggestions? I'd hate to rebiuld the whole OS again... :)

Thanks!

Looking at the devices that got installed again...

I definitely did not remove the CPU, Intel Network adapter (and I doubt I removed the PCI to ISA bridge) nor did I remove Processor to PCI or the audio or the AHCI ATA controller or ATA channels or CD ROM. This probably isn't important but I thought to mention it non the less to be complete... : )

And apparently, ONE of those devices makes my Win 7 guest crash :/

POST-EDIT: I "started over" and went to Safe Mode and this time only removed 2 devices (the ACPI ones). I rebooted and normal boot went just fine BUT I again got greeted with (the same?) long list of devices that needed to be installed. I will now re-install the Guest Additions CD and install the latest roll-up updates from June. After the machine rebooted, I'll update any news I might have. I stlil appreciate some experienced minds to help me... ;-)

Windows Update couldn't install all updates: I noticed this was going on for a few months. I only mention this because... It boots again!! I suspect, guess, that re-installing the host software cd fixed the culprit hardware driver...

Thanks you all! ;p

Peace!
