I've got a problem running VirtBox.

I have created my virtual machine but when i go to start it my sistem says:

VBox status code: -1908 (VERR_VM_DRIVER_NOT_INSTALLED).

sudo apt-get install module-assistant

virtualbox-ose is already installed in its latest version.

sudo m-a a-i virtualbox-ose

Done!
unpack
The source tarball could not be found!
Package virtualbox-ose not installed?
Running "m-a -f get virtualbox-ose" may help.

Drop that Version and install newest Version 2.0 from VBOX Homepage. And install gcc and kernel-header.

Big man!! Great, it's going.
But i've overcame just the first obstacle, 'cause now trying to install Xp on a linux host the machine says to me this:

impossible to upload file /i386/halacpi.dll
error code 7

I've founded about this kind of error a topic, who was talking about insufficient ram in the machine, so i gave more but it is still not working.

Whath should i do?

Thanks

Do you have ACPI enabled in the VM options?

Also, to prevent any more issues along the way, 2.0 is quite unstable so unless you really need the features of 2.0, use 1.6.6 instead. Be sure to completely remove 2.0 before installing 1.6.6.

Resolved.

During the first part of the xp installation, when the machine askes you to push F6 key just to install drivers SCISI or RAID if it is the F7 key the one whose pushed the pc doesn't detect ACPI and so it goes.

Thank's to sasquatch you helped me to find the solution!!

But now there's another problem: the file serial.sys cuses an error (3072)
row 5882 d:\nt\base\boot\setup\setup.c.

What's that?

Did you enable a serial port in the settings?

Disable the port and the error will go away. Unless you need the serial port for something.

I'm sorry but it doesn't work.
The error is still existing.

In evidence: when i press the usb o serial port option choice just to change the settings, it compares this message:

=>> Could not load the Host USB Proxy Service (VERR_FILE_NOT_FOUND). The service might be not installed on the host computer.

OutputCode'&nbspd':
NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0x00004005)
Component:
Host
Interface:
IHost {489fb370-c227-4d43-9761-ceb28484fd9f}
called:
IMachine {1e509de4-d96c-4f44-8b94-860194f710ac}

Both for Usb and for serial port.
Is it correlated?

If your host is Ubuntu the following might help: http://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic. ... 1294#21294 ... or you could disable USB. (There are multiple threads in this forum about getting USB to work on Ubuntu, by the way.)

I've disabled all of them.
it doesn't go.

Have I to follow the top guide you posted yesterday also if VB doesn't work with disable USB ports or not?
Before to touch system files I'd prefer to know this. (I will not touch it if isn't necessary)

Forgive me it isn't a polemic phrase, is just to be certain. :D

Do you still use 2.0? If so, try 1.6.6 first. Remove everything from VB before installing 1.6.6. See the announcement of 2.0 in the "Using VB" forum for hints to get your 2.0 VM working in 1.6.6.

You have to disable and not use USB support if you don't want to change any system files. However, the change doesn't pose a threat to system stability or security atm.

Problem after problem.

First, I have to say thank you to mr vkov_tinsky, (great guy).
Now the machine advance in its installation walk.
You're great guys, really, all of you, and i hope in a future to be great just an half of the persons you are, really, but now, cause there's a but, (and I say that i should have to baptize this topic with something like "every kind of problem"...) now there's a new problem who's stopping my xp installation...

the system advances and asks to me if I want to install xp, (all regular) shows me all the rules i have to accept to do that, i press F8 key accepting its and everything run until the formatting of the disk is going to start.

I tried a couple of times, and both, during the formatting my desktop disappears and everything becomes black.

I can say the CPU is working during that 'cause i hear it.

I waited both for a few minutes but nothing change....
The video's off and i can see nothing.

Any ideas about it?

Forgive my ignorance...

As I said, do you really need 2.0? It's quite unstable. This is the proof of it. Use 1.6.6.
