No connect via Host Interface adapter

Post by Lothar »

I try to run a w2k or winxp machine under a SuSE 10.3. All settings are properly done (ifcfg-br0, ifcfg-eth0, vboxnet-script, sudoers and chmod). The machines are running, but no network connection can be established (to a DHCP on an win2k-Server). The problem ist, that the setting in VBox NAT are working, but not, if I try to change to "Host Interface". On the settings-page the changes are accepted, but on the main window of VBox appears "Adapter 0" but no description (on the NAT-Settings appears NAT).
When I start the virt machine under "Host Interface" it does not start and reports the following failure:

Unknown error creating VM (VERR_HOSTIF_INIT_FAILED).
VBox status code: -3100 (VERR_HOSTIF_INIT_FAILED).
Result Code: 0x80004005
Component: Console
Interface: IConsole

Thanks for ANY HELP!!!!! - Best regards to all from Austria - Lothar

What have you set for Host Interface? You need to create a TAP interface and write it's name in the settings dialog. See the Manual for how to create HIF and bridge.
Read the Forum Posting Guide before opening a topic.
