Virtual Machine totally unrelated to the hardware

Post by Sergio94 »

Hello everybody this is my first post here,
I have a software that is case specific and I want to try to run it on VirtualBox just for a backup. Despite all my efforts, the ID recognized by the license of my VirtualBox changes everytime I try to run it on different computers. Any idea how to fully emulate a computer?
Thank you

Virtualbox cannot completely "emulate" all of the parts of a PC to match a real PC. And the host's physical CPU shows through to the guest OS. So if your licensing from the original PC checks hardware it will very likely fail when the real PC's OS is transferred to a Virtualbox guest, unless the original "PC" was a Virtualbox guest.

If the license was set up first in a Virtualbox guest you stand a good chance of being able to move the guest to new PCs without breaking the license. Virtualbox keeps the "hardware" it presents to the guest OS steady between versions, though the new host's CPU will appear in the guest. This might change the licensing, it might not.
