Installing Win 7 Guest on Win 7 Host causes BSOD

Every time I try to install Windows 7 Pro (64-bit) in VB 6.0.6 running on a Win 7 Pro (64-bit) host, the install fails with a BSOD.

I have tried installing from an ISO and from an actual CD with the same result.

Installing WinXP (SP3) installed with no issues using default settings.

VBox.log is attached.

All help is appreciated.

I assume that it's the guest that BSODs, right? If so, what's the BSOD that you get? Read ch. 12.3.5 How to Record Bluescreen Information from Windows Guests from the User Manual on how to record that information.

Were they official ISO/CDs?

You should maximize the amount of VRAM from the VM Settings » Display » Screen » Video Memory.

I increased the VRAM to 128 (Max) and still get a BSOD on the Guest as soon as installation starts.

The BSOD info is:

That's ... interesting. My Windows host(s)/VM(s) over here show:

Win7-32 VM:   Version = "6.1.7601.24408"
Win7-64 VM:   Version = "6.1.7601.24408"
Real Win7-32: Version = "6.1.7601.24408"
Real Win7-64: Version = "6.1.7601.24387"[1]

So, you seem to have an ISO that has all the latest and greatest updates included already, not the standard Win7 ISO. And given the fact that you're getting a 0xD1: DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL BSOD, on "PCIIDEX.SYS", and given the fact that MS has issued a hotfix for said file, I would strongly urge you to get another ISO, if possible.

My mistake. I had to pull the version numbers from my host OS, since I am unable to install the guest.

I was using a Win 7 Pro CD with SP1 included.
I also tried a Win 7 Pro CD without SP1 and I get a similar BSOD.

The diagnosis remains the same. You don't have the original Win7 ISO, try with that. Your settings are almost identical to a gazillion of VMs that I've looked throughout the years, so my explanation is the source, the ISO.

I have tried another version of Windows 7 (Home Premium).

I gave max video memory, increased the size of the Guest machine to 150 GB and used an original windows disc.

The attached zip file has the log, a screenshot of the BSOD (which happened as soon as I tried to install the guest) and an image of the actual windows disc.

I have run out of things to try.
