Well, Puppy is booting which is enough for me. Next step is to upgrade VectorLinux from 5.8 to 6.0 which will be very painful... thanks for help everybody!

I didn't say that I disliked it. I have nothing against a bit of exposure -- just not on my desktop to distract me. Never mind.
