I created this support ticket a while back: https://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/17911
I created a new Windows 98 VM recently and the problem with the audio barely if at all occurs in VirtualBox 6.0.4. Could this problem be caused by the process of performing a major upgrade to VirtualBox with an existing VM versus creating a new VM? I can't remember what version of VirtualBox was originally installed at the time, possibly 5.x upgraded to 5.2.x.

Re: Audio missing in Windows 98
- The ticket talks about specific applications, not audio in general, because it's working fine over here. We need details and specifics, not generalities.
- Are you "win_error" from the ticket? And if you already had an account with Oracle, did you have to create a 2nd account?
- We need to see a complete VBox.log, from a complete VM run, where the problem occurs:
- Start the VM from cold-boot (not from a paused or saved state) / Observe problem / Shutdown the VM (force close it if you have to).
- With the VM completely shut down (not paused or saved), right-click on the VM in the VirtualBox Manager and select "Show Log".
- Save only the first "VBox.log", ZIP it and attach it to your response. See the "Upload attachment" tab below the reply form.
Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.
Do NOT reply with the "QUOTE" button, please use the "POST REPLY", at the bottom of the form.
If you obfuscate any information requested, I will obfuscate my response. These are virtual UUIDs, not real ones.

Re: Audio missing in Windows 98
I should've been more specific. The problem does not occur as much and as often with applications like Windows Media Player in the new virtual machine. I did encounter that problem almost 100 percent of time in the past with an old VM that was created with an older version of VirtualBox when VirtualBox was upgraded. I'm using the same account here and at the bug section. I have a different name under the bug tickets for some reason and I don't know why I did that. I attached the logs.

Re: Audio missing in Windows 98
I found a quirk. I was able to get sound from the windows media player when playing the "Windows 98 exit sound" but not "setup0.wav" in the new VM.

I now realize that I posted this in the wrong section of this forum. This should be in "Windows Guests" section. I'm not sure whether it could be moved.
