Some people run the same host and guest so that they can keep things separate from each other - do safe things on the host, risky things in the guest!

Not sure where that came from. In order to support / guide / advise, I like many others have many Windows guests installed (WfW 3.11, 98, Me, NT, XP, 7 and 10 if you want the full list) and they all work without problems.
The original issue you reported could be a genuine memory issue on the host, it could be a guest configuration issue or it could be a programming error. See how you get on with v6.0.4 and if there is still a problem zip up and port the VBox.log file from the guest.
