I've installed a few different things, care to be more specific? I'm on the third from-scratch win98 VM. Was not having the VB crash problem in the first 2, just the fatal OD/VXD/VMM. Between the 2nd and third I also uninstalled and reinstalled VB software... perhaps something went wrong in that process that is now giving me the memory/crash.

I assume he's suggesting that you reinstall the host OS as a way of getting rid of third party AV. I suggest you find some less drastic way to do it, at least temporarily for test purposes.
