VirtualBox full screen mode, wrong aspect ratio

Hi all

When running VirtualBox guest in the full-screen mode in an external monitor attached to a laptop computer (HDMI) how can I choose the external monitor native resolution in the guest OS?

Only the internal screen maximum resolution (and lower resolutions) seems to be available. My external monitor native resolution is 1920 x 1200 (aspect ratio 16:10) and the internal screen native resolution is 1920 x 1080 (aspect ratio 16:9).

I've tried to re-install Guest Additions, switched between normal and full-screen modes,
VBoxManage setextradata "Windows 10" "CustomVideoMode1" "1920x1200x32"
etc. but nothing helps.

- Host: Dell Precision 7510, Radeon HD 8890M, Debian Linux Stretch 64-bit, Xfce 4.12, VirtualBox 5.2.18
- Guest: Windows 10 Pro 1809 64-bit, VirtualBox Guest Additions 5.2.18

Kind regards,

Harri

Under the View menu, choose Full Screen Mode. Don't mess with the resolutions manually. If you go full screen, you go full screen, that's it. You don't "set" the resolution.

Hello,
You have to go to the File menu and activate the Environment setting.
Then you select The Display option and change the setting for Maximum guest size.
After that, you have to reboot your virtual machine.
set your arbitrary size there both width and height.
Thanks

@Afflospark
You don't have to do any of these things in a default VirtualBox installation.

If you had to do a single one of them, I would have mentioned it... ;)
