[NotSupported] Virtualbox 5.1.22 Portable not running on Windows 10

Hi guys,

i have a problem! my virtualbox portable 5.1.22 (newest version) isnt running on windows 10.
and i cant update because i am using an usb stick on different computers. is there any solution to get vbox portable run on windows 10 ??

Portable VirtualBox is not supported here. You need to ask whoever it is that created portable VirtualBox.

And BTW, there is no such thing as "Portable VirtualBox". Portable are the applications that do NOT need to be installed. VirtualBox does NOT fit that definition, it HAS to be installed, because it installs kernel drivers and per-device filters. So, "Portable VirtualBox" is a big pile of lies, a big contradiction!

but the original "non portable" virtualbox i cant use with usb stick on different computers (i tried) the portable version works. but only on windows 10 its not working. the creators of portable hasnt got a forum. would be nice if anybody can just tell me how to fix it.

No, it does not. As I said (and I don't like repeating myself), there is no such thing as a "Portable VirtualBox" and there will never be. You need to install it on each and every computer that you run it. Do you understand that part?

And I am not particularly moved if "Portable VirtualBox" has, or doesn't have a forum. Are we supposed to support every orphan/fork out there? That would mean chaos over here.

If you want support in these forums, install VirtualBox on each computer. Which you do in any event...

its 100% working without installing virtualbox on any computer (except windows 10), and why not ask here, it hasnt something to do with portable, this issue belongs to the normal virutalbox 5.1.22 version.

and believe me i put my usb stick in any random windows 8 pc (without having virtualbox installed) and i can just directly start my virtual machines. just try for your own.

If you actually look at what "Portable" VirtualBox is doing then you find that when you run it from a USB stick it copies all of the require device drivers to the host Windows directory, registers them and manually starts the services they provide. I couldn't be bothered to dig any further through their source code to check whether it cleanly reverses the process when you shut down but I doubt it.

VirtualBox 5.1.22 has long since been obsoleted and categorised as "no longer supported"

i found the solution by my own, with the portable installer you can install as well the newest 6.0.4 exe, if you download it manually before.

Are you for real? Seriously now... do you honestly have a clue what a device driver is, what it does and what it takes to run?

I would have some not so nice words about you too, but prove me wrong; try to run VirtualBox-portable without being an Admin. Then hit the books, educate yourself, and when you do, come back and tell me what an elevated privilege installation is and what a kernel driver needs to be installed. Do yourself a favor and stop claiming otherwise, your ignorance is showing!
