I am running windows XP professional. I have installed the guest CD additions, but the none of the available resolutions are 16:10 aspect ratio. My screen is a 4k 3840 x 2160.
I run this OS for the purpose of playing an old japanese game. The game will install but all the text shows up as ???????. I think i need to install japanese language support. When i go to control panel, regional and language options, i have the option to install files for east asian languages. When i try to do that, i'm told i need to insert the disc labelled "Windows XP professional service pack 3 CD", i have obviously do not have that CD. What should i do?

Re: Windows XP resolution and language issue
I'm not so sure that WinXP knew about 16:10, maybe it did, maybe not. Why do you want it to be 16:10, and not 5:4, 4:3, 3:2, 5:3, 16:9, 9:5 or 21:9? Why specifically 16:10, because your monitor is that? Do that mean that you have all your app windows in a 16:10 size? How about your browser window? Is that a 16:10?Arilando wrote:none of the available resolutions are 16:10 aspect ratio
What is the resolution that you're after? Why don't you manually resize it?
I'm not sure that WinXP was speaking High Valyrian either. This may be an unknown language for WinXP. I don't have a 4K monitor to know for sure...Arilando wrote:My screen is a 4k 3840 x 2160.
What game would that be? And remember that games of that era, tend to believe that they own the computer, they can do pretty much whatever they want, including taking over the GPU management.Arilando wrote:I run this OS for the purpose of playing an old japanese game.
I can't help you with the language part.
Download it maybe? Unfortunately, Microsoft stopped offering them, so you'll have to find a 3rd party to get this from... Assuming that you have a valid WinXP license, that shouldn't be a problem in my "PC" book...Arilando wrote:When i try to do that, i'm told i need to insert the disc labelled "Windows XP professional service pack 3 CD", i have obviously do not have that CD. Re: Windows XP resolution and language issue
I fixed the language issue. I actually do want to run it in a lower resolution. Is there any way of using virtualbox's scaled mode while making it respect the aspect ratio?

Re: Windows XP resolution and language issue
Unless you start talking some resolution numbers, I'm afraid I have no exact answer either.
And as I said, you can manually resize the window...

Hello,
As I read you have faced language and resolution issue.
To rectify that resolution
1. you need to go to the folder called C:\Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox.
2. Press Shift + right-click and choose "Open command prompt here".
3.Type the following: VBoxManage.exe setextradata windows7 CustomVideoMode1 your resolution ( like 1366x768x32)
4. Replace windows7 with the name of the VirtualBox.
Press Enter.
5. Start your virtual machine.
6. then you have to right-click on the virtual machine desktop and choose Screen Resolution.
7. In the Resolution list, you will find the option 1366 x 768.
Choose your resolution and click OK.
Thanks
