Hi, I'm using VirtualBox 6.0.4, Windows 7 64 bit Host and Windows XP 32 bit Guest with Guest Additions Installed. I'm sorta having two separate issues with audio.
My first issue was that I would have audio on the desktop, but the audio would stop shortly after launching a game. Even after closing the game, I'd still have no audio. I could adjust volume settings and such and it still said I had an audio device, but no audio would ever play.
Then suddenly I got a new, possibly worse issue, where now it just says I have no audio device at all.

Re: No Audio Device Detected
For future reference, you should completely shut down the VM before grabbing the VBox.log. Then ZIP it before attaching it to your response.

Joking aside, it seems to me that this specific game was grabbing on to the audio device, and something went horribly wrong after that part, and the audio wasn't getting released, even after quitting the game. My bet is that the game doesn't like being virtualized. What's the game BTW?
From the log your audio device seems to be up and running...
BTW, speaking of logs:

Did you completely shut down your WinXP guest and restarted it from a cold boot? Does it still say that? If yes, go to the Device Manager and force an update. If that doesn't work, delete any audio devices and then force an update.DarkwingDork wrote:Then suddenly I got a new, possibly worse issue, where now it just says I have no audio device at all.

You seem to have disabled the VT-x capabilities in your BIOS. Your i7-4790K CPU most certainly supports hardware virtualization, so it's a matter of enabling it in the BIOS. See your PC's manufacturer help on how to do this. Also, make sure that nothing else has an exclusive hold on that.00:00:02.590323 CPUM: No hardware-virtualization capability detected ... 00:00:02.952701 Full Name: "Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4790K CPU @ 4.00GHz"

Oops, ok thanks!socratis wrote:For future reference, you should completely shut down the VM before grabbing the VBox.log. Then ZIP it before attaching it to your response.
Harry Potter 1 and 2. I was going to stream them for a friend, because we were talking about old games from our childhood, when I found out that they won't work on my computer anymore! I was heartbroken and this is my last resort...socratis wrote:Don't play games!

Yeah I've tried a few times from a cold boot. Sorry I'm a bit ignorant on this stuff, what do you mean "force an update"? I don't see an option like that, the closest thing would be updating the driver's for a specific device, but anytime I try that the Hardware Update Wizard wants me to insert the hardware installation CD, which I don't have.socratis wrote:Did you completely shut down your WinXP guest and restarted it from a cold boot? That's weird it says I have an audio device up and running. I'd send a screenshot but my account isn't old enough. Basically in the "sounds and Audio Devices Properties" window, it just says I have No Audio Device and the volume slider is greyed out.socratis wrote:From the log your audio device seems to be up and running...
Ok I think I went ahead and did that now? In theory. I'll send my log again as an attachment. This time properly (I hope).socratis wrote:BTW, speaking of logs:You seem to have disabled the VT-x capabilities in your BIOS. For the sound card? For the ICH97? It shouldn't.DarkwingDork wrote:the closest thing would be updating the driver's for a specific device, but anytime I try that the Hardware Update Wizard wants me to insert the hardware installation CD, which I don't have.

I followed the steps you gave and scanned for hardware changes, nothing seems to have changed.socratis wrote:Right-click on the "My Computer" icon » Properties » Hardware » Device Manager » click somewhere inside the window » "Scan for hardware changes" (in the Toolbar).
Here's a screenshot of all my audio devices if it helps For each one I can update it opens a "Found New Hardware Wizard" which eventually asks me to insert a disk: Thanks again for your continued support!

Please edit your message and attach the image locally in your response (see the "Upload attachment" tab below the reply form). Not a lot of people will go to 3rd party sites. Plus, it's more convenient if the image goes along with the message...
