Just downloaded VirtualBox Version 6.0.4 r128413 (Qt5.6.2). Host: 64 bit Windows 10 Home.
Trying to set up my first VM. Working my way through the user manual. Having trouble installing a Windows 10 Home guest on it.
When creating the VM, the drop down box doesn't offer a 64 bit version of Windows 10, so I chose the 32 bit version. I gave it an iso file on my Desktop as the Windows 10 Home installation file. But I get an error saying:
"VTx-AMD-hardware acceleration is not available on your system. Certain guests (eg., O/S2 and QNX) require this feature and will fail to boot without it."
Clicking <continue> takes me to a screen that say my PC need to be repaired. Can't get any further.
My goal is to set up a Windows 10 Home VM guest machine to run an app in a safe place.
The drop down box offers "Other" as an alternative system. But isn't version 6.0 freshly released? Why isn't "Windows" 10 a choice? Whatever.
What do I need to do to install 64 bit Windows 10 Home on this guest VM?
Thanks for the help.
Eldritch

Re: Problem installing 64 bit Windows 10
You need an activated vt-x, which is not occupied by any other application. What do I need to do to install 64 bit Windows 10 Home on this guest VM?
Re: Problem installing 64 bit Windows 10
Thanks for the FAQ. With that and the user manual, I got a VM up and running.
I want to set up a shared folder. Found the iso file, but can't figure out how to get it into the VM.
The manual tells me to go to menu items that don't appear in my submenus.
Any help?

Good, I'm going to mark the topic as [Resolved].Eldritch wrote:I got a VM up and running.
That's a different topic. You can't be dumping all your issues in the same thread, it's going to end up a mess. We try to observe the rule "one issue per thread, one thread per issue with an appropriate title". So, please open a new thread with that issue.Eldritch wrote:I want to set up a shared folder
Just a quick reply; with the VM window having the focus, you go to the host's menu "Devices" » "Insert GAs CD image..." and then follow the prompts. If that doesn't work, please open a new thread...
Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.

Don't worry, it's one of the "unwritten" rules, one of the "makes sense" rules.Eldritch wrote:unaware I was violating a forum rule.
It really helps if the title of the thread has the [Resolved] or [Solved] tags. If you search for your problems in your favorite search engine and you see one of those tags, you'll know that the chances of solving your problem too, are highly increased. And you'll know that you're looking for "Win10x64 installation problems"...

Thankfully the previous/original mods have had far more of a wiser head than me!
