2.0.0 killed XP?

Post by Scheuch »

Hi,

I have just installed VB 2.0.0 over 1.6.6 (on Leopard) and checked my virtual machines. The Ubuntu machine runs fine, but the XP machine does not load correctly: "Fehler beim Lesen des Datenträgers" (means sth. like "Error while reading the harddisk") and wants a restart.

Any idea? I do not know what further details you could need, so just ask. :)

Cheers,
Benny

I had a similar issue and I was able to fix it by going into the settings tab, going to advanced and changing the IDE Controller Type to PIIX3. Don't know if that will help but it got mine working. Good Luck

Getting the same issue

Unfortunately changing to PIIX3 didn't help either :(

Thanks for your answer, but switching to PIIX3 didn't help.

Please check the *.log file inside Logs\ folder. Look for PCHS and LCHS, the BIOS's idea about cylinders heads sectors of the HDD. It seems to translate to LH=128 for disks below 4 or 5 GByte, but my W2000 *.vmdk image running under VMware Player is 4 G and expects to see LH=255. I got the same message as you on VB 2.0.0

I do not know how to change the BIOS's idea (except by creating larger HDD image and putting partition inside)
