.HDD from Parallels in MAC to VirualBox in Windows 10

Post by nicofisio »

Hello everybody and thanks in advance for any help.
I had a MAC with my Virtual Windows 7 inside Parallels IOS.
I burned out my MAC :-( and I bought a Lenovo, with Windows 10, but I still need my Virtual Windows 7 (few programs i need, work only in Windows 7) so I am looking for a way to import my Virtual Windows 7 from Parallels in MAC to Virtualbox in Windows 10.
I see that last version of Virtualbox supports file HDD (which i can extract from the .PVM file of Parallels) but Virtualbox gives me back error and i can't open it.
Is there any way to import it?
Thanks a lot

PS: following few guides, i have already copied the pvm file, in my windows pc. Searched and extracted the HHD file (which is the biggest, 50GB almost). Copied this file on the desktop.
After that...only errors when importing my HDD file :-(
Any advise?
Thanks a lot!

Would you mind sharing that error? We're not very good at guessing...

According to the manual:
  • HDD. Image files of Parallels version 2 (HDD format) are also supported.
Due to lack of documentation of the format, newer versions such as 3 and 4 are not supported. You can however convert such image files to version 2 format using tools provided by Parallels.
Now, this is going to be a little tough since you don't have an OSX computer, but if you know someone that's around and you have a portable USB to take the HDD with you, that could work...

Import it? You can only use Import for a complete vm which has been exported. If all you have is the virtual HDD you would need to create a new vm using the existing .hdd file as its virtual disk. Even if that worked, you would probably have problems with device drivers and activation. A vm is more than just a virtual disk (just as a PC is more than its HDD).
