[Solved] How to increase resolution 10 FHD (1080x1920)?

I'm using linux mint 19.1 cinnamon and virtualbox 6.0 running windows 10 October18 update. Before installing virtualbox 6.0 I removed version 5 and all its extensions. I can't find a way to increase the resolution to FHD so I can use it comfortably on a full screen, the option is grey and unclickable. What other info do you need?

First and foremost an explanation of what FHD stands for.
Second, whether or not you installed the Guest Additions (GAs) into FHD. Sounds like you didn't.

With the VM window having the focus, go to the host's menu "Devices" » "Insert Guest Additions CD Image...". If not prompted by auto-run, run "VBoxWindowsAdditions.exe" from the CD. Make sure there are no errors or suggestions during the install.

If that doesn't work, we need to see a complete VBox.log, from a complete VM run, where the problem occurs:
  • Start the VM from cold-boot (not from a paused or saved state) / Observe problem / Shutdown the VM (force close it if you have to).
  • With the VM completely shut down (not paused or saved), right-click on the VM in the VirtualBox Manager and select "Show Log".
  • Save only the first "VBox.log", ZIP it and attach it to your response. See the "Upload attachment" tab below the reply form.

Moving to "Windows Guests" from "Linux Hosts".

I would guess that FHD is an acronym the OP has invented for fullhd (1920x1080), but I guess what he actually wants is full screen mode.

It is what I meant, I did not invent it, and I do want to use full screen but in 1920x1080.

Thank you for your reply, the guestAdditions gets me to change resolutions, however the guest freezes on a weirdly torn picture nearly 100% of the time. I can see what's going on on the preview screen in the VirtualBox manager, but not in the VM itself (see picture attached). Please see the log attached.

Shut down the VM. Go to the VM Settings » Display » Screen. Change the Graphics controller from "VBoxSVGA" to "VBoxVGA". Enable 2D and 3D acceleration. Increase the VRAM to the max 256 MB.

Thank you. It worked! The VM is definitely usable now. There are still lags in responses and refreshes though, would it help to increase the RAM, its currently takes 4GB out of the 16GB of my laptop, is there a recommendation for Windows 10?

Glad you got it going. Marking as [Solved].

From your last log, if you've enabled 2D/3D acceleration, you could give it a 2nd CPU. You have a 4 core CPU, you could afford to give 2 vCPUs to your Win10 guest.
