Cannot Windows update on Windows 10 Enterprise Preview build 1809 on Virtual Box 5.2.22

Post by mrusli »

Hi

Running Virtual Box on Macos Mojave 10.14.1. Install the Windows 10 Enterprise Preview build 1809. With VirtualBox version 5.2.22.

After installing the WIndows 10, it cannot do any Windows 10 update.

I even have install the VirtualBox Guest Addition iso version 5.2.22. (With or without the Virtual Box Guest Addition still cannot do any Windows Updates on the Operating System)

Still nothing seems to work with the Windows updates.

Can anyone please help me....

What does "cannot" mean? It refuses? It stops in the middle, aborts? It crashes?

Hi

What I meant is it's refuses to do any windows updates.

Do I have to install the VirtualBox Guest Addition?
Or I do not need to install the VirtualBox Guest Addition?

I didn't ask for the log, because it's not relevant, but I'll take a look. What I'm asking for, is for you to describe to me exactly the error/problem in your Windows. What does it say, what does it do, how does it refuse? I'm not sitting in front of your computer, so you have to do a better explanation of the situation.

PS. For future reference you should ZIP your logs. It helps save a (virtual) tree or two... ;)

As long as you have an active network (and you do because Windows can check for updates), then it's a Windows problem, not a VirtualBox problem. Most probably something wrong with the Microsoft servers. I've had it happen in real systems.

Just because an OS/program that runs in the context of VirtualBox has a problem, it doesn't make it a VirtualBox problem necessarily. You're having an issue that has nothing to do with VirtualBox.

As for your Guest Additions, you have *not* installed them, but this has absolutely nothing to do with the Windows Update problem.
