dual monitor approaches

I'm running 5.2.20 on a Linux laptop with an external screen attached. In general, it works really well :-)

Now I'd like to be able to use both screens in my Windows 10 guest.

Having 2 virtual screens works, in the sense that I can have a virtual screen on each physical monitor. But when I open a program in the Windows guest, I can't control which virtual screen the program opens in. I'd expect it to open in the virtual screen I launched it from, but it doesn't. I've experimented using File Explorer and Word 2016. Any tips?

So instead, I've resized a virtual screen so it extends across both monitors. This works somewhat, but there seems to be a maximum horizontal resolution of 4499? If I keep enlarging the Window, it suddenly shrinks down to some default size (1024x768 i guess), see logs below. I've tried setting maximum guest screen size to "None" and to "Hint" (with large values), but that doesn't seem to help, so I'm back on "Automatic".

I guess its an interaction with my X settings:

I have Nvidia scaling the screens to 2560x1600 (laptop) and 1600x2560, so I'm looking to extend the virtual screen to say 4160 wide. (not sure where VirtualBox is getting 4499 from, but I guess that's a pre-scaled value)

That's how Windows behaves. I often have to switch which my "main" screen is, just to get my game to launch in the screen I want it to, causing all sorts of problems to other programs. It's a mess really, but nothing that VirtualBox can do about it.

As for the rest, I don't do X, so I can't advice you on that. The only thing I could do is to take a look at your "~/.config/VirtualBox/VirtualBox.xml" and the ".vbox" for your Win10 VM. If you want to, ZIP them and attach them to your reply.
