XP Guest Runs on Vista host, BSOD on Ubuntu

I have a laptop with a dualboot of Vista and Ubuntu. The drive has a 'data' partition on it, accessible from both OS.
I created a WinXP guest using Vista, which works well. For kicks, I installed VB in the ubuntu install and tried to run the same XP guest from the Ubuntu host, and got a BSOD.
Before I get too deep into this, I am assuming that this should be possible. Am I right, and if so are there some settings that I should be aware of to run the same guest from both hosts?
